GTA Liberty City PSP : An entry into the Mafia World
If I had to write a full article about GTA Liberty City Stories on PSP, it would surely take me a book to write as there’s so much to say about this game as it’s equally one of the few games which i have enjoyed playing on Sony’s Portable Playstation. In this article i’m going to give abrief insight of the game and necessary information to be learned.
Overview
Released at the beginning of the 21th century by one of the most famous gaming companies, Rockstar games, GTA Liberty City Stories (also known as Grand Theft Auto Liberty City stories),is a third person shooter open-world action game released on PSP.
The game features the adventures of Tony Cipriani in the famous city of Liberty City, a fictional city similar to New York city in the US. The game portrays the journey of Tony into the Mafia as he works for Mafia barrons like Salvador, and builds his wealth around illegal activities like Theft, drug dealing, gang wars and other illicit jobs.
The game is marked by an original storyline, original characters as well as realistic dialogues and missions different from each other.
Liberty City which revisits the setting of GTA III is where our storyline takes place. The city is divided into a mainland and 2 island (one where an airport is found and the other which acts as both commercial and administrative town with lots of shops and firms).
The story starts in the mainland as Tony arrives in the town as a newcomer and will have to work at the beginning for Salvador, an aged mafia baron who intends to take control of the city. Tony’s task are simple(in the beginning) yet illicit like theft, bullying or corrupting. He is paid “shit” but as the player progresses in the game Tony gets to work with other characters like Salvador’s girlfriend, a fat guy owning a nightclub, Tony’s mamma, a politician, a Yakuza’s wife etc these different characters in the long-run offer higher pays yet complex missions but permits to unlock new items like outfits, buildings and even arms.
Additional features
The game permits to drive, walk freely, work side jobs like taxi, ambulance or police defense. Its equally possible to buy guns from a gun shop as well as cars. Tony has the ability to wear different outfits (which are unlocked as the player progresses in the game). It’s equally possible to displace Tony from one city to the others through subway trains.
When tony is killed he is brought to a hospital where he is treated contrarily to when he is been chased by police men and imprisoned after which he pays 100$ fine in order to be released.
The game offers the possibility to save the game at different spots which is very useful in the course of playing. Its equally possible to listen to interesting radio stations like Liberty Jam while driving or riding a bike, different radio stations offer content like news, documentaries and even indie or pop music. Again the game offers the possibility to shoot while driving or riding a bike. Its even possible to drive a helicopter or even a tank.
Dislikes
One of the disadvantage of GTA Liberty City Stories is that the game is quite short with less than 200 principal missions. Secondary missions are on the side quite boring as they mostly involve bike and car racing.
Again Tony is unable to swim, unable to jump over fences and is quite weak as a protagonist. Money is somehow useless in the game as little can be bought (no mansion/houses, no cars, no food, no outfits). Also, the map is small and limited and I feel it could be enlarge a little more.
Despite its good and bad aspects, GTA LIBERTY CITY STORIES is a MUST especially if you love action games on PPSSPP.
